, and now general john allen is involved over his correspondence with the original woman, jill kelley. all sounds a little confusing, it is. let's get right to nbc's andrea mitchell who can help us sort it out. andrea, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. it is confusing. yet another military general drawn into an fbi investigation that prompted the resignation of cia director david petraeus. marine general john allen replaced david petraeus as commander in afghanistan last year, but allen has now been caught up in the fbi probe that led to petraeus' resignation as cia director. overnight the pentagon announced allen's nomination to be commander of nato has been delayed and the nomination of his successor in afghanistan speeded up. after military officials announced that 20,000 to 30,000 pages of potentially inappropriate e-mails connected allen to jill kelley, the woman who had first complained to the fbi about harassing e-mails traced to paula broadwell, petraeus' biographer and acknowledged mistress. allen, who is married, denies any wrongdoing, and for now remains commander

general david petraeus' resignation. the top u.s. commander in afghanistan general john allen is being investigated for some 20,000 to 30,000 pages of potentially inappropriate e-mails with jill kelly. kelley's initial complaint that she had received harassing e-mails from petraeus' alleged lover paula broadwell set off the initial fbi investigate into the petraeus affair. allen was set to be the next nato commander for europe, a nomination now on hold. meantime, monday night the fbi searched paula broadwell's home in north carolina but did not say what items it removed in its search. >>> investigators on the scene of an explosion that killed two people in an indianapolis neighborhood say a faulty furnace may be to blame. the owners of the home at the suspected epicenter of the blast weren't there at the time. this as dozens of displaced residents are briefly escorted to their properties to gather what they can from the wreckage. >>> gasoline rationing imposed in new jersey after hurricane sandy ends this morning. governor chris christie says the state's recovery period is over and the
